Music: Jazz Choir a smash hit at Eastern Prayer Breakfast

On Friday 26th February the WCC Jazz Choir ‘Octave One’ took up the invitation to perform at the Eastern Prayer Breakfast held at Karralyka Theatre.  The performance was magnificent with many of the Politicians, Church and Business leaders, Heads of Christian Schools and other delegates all commenting how professional and wonderful this ensemble was.

The ensemble performed 2 solo pieces, ‘Butterfly’ and ‘Let there be Peace on Earth’ as well as an excellent rendition of ‘Advance Australia Fair’ including what is affectionately called ‘the Christian verse’.  The solos and ensemble skills on show were superb.

The morning was not without incident however…As the students were being transported to this performance the 12 seater bus they were travelling in came into contact with a very recently fallen light post across the Eastlink freeway.  However this was not enough to keep them from this performance.  The students used the time it took to arrange alternative transport as an unexpected opportunity to fit in some practice and warmup, as a 6:00am soundcheck is never kind to unwarmed and practiced vocal chords.

The students were praised for their professionalism and dedication to excellence in performance while maximising everyones enjoyment. The free cooked breakfast was an added bonus!

All students were fine after our buses early morning version of ‘See you at the pole’ and the result of their work was enjoyed by all.

Congratulations to Mr. Asher Johnson and Octave One for making the most of this amazing opportunity.

Mr. David George
Secondary Music Coordinator.
