Dear parents of WCC Secondary Music students,

We have had fantastic, if not frantic, Term One filled with so many great events and opportunities for the WCC Music Students, such as ‘Musicquest’ Nights, ‘Musicquest’ Showcase, Performances by WCC Music students with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra Secondary Symphony, Jazz Choir’s performance at the Outer Eastern Prayer Breakfast and most recently the CSSN Music Day held at Hillcrest Christian College. I would like to thank each of you for your support of the Music Department across this very busy term.

Term Two looks like a big one as well, with a number of events just around the corner.

The Secondary Music ensembles are taking part in the first, of what we hope will be many, ‘Secondary Music Ensembles Concert’.
Held on 19th April at 7:00pm in the Performing Arts building at WCC.
Ensembles involved in this night include:
• Jazz band
• Jazz Choir
• Concert Band
• String Orchestra
• Choir
• Selected Chapel Band
• ACT THREE ‘Lion King’

Student in each of these ensembles will need to be at the Performing Arts Centre at 6:00pm having eaten already. Students will need to wear Black Dress Pants (no jeans), Black polished shoes, black plain socks, and a white shirt or blouse.

Students in each of these ensembles have been practicing very hard across this first term to get ready for this concert and we would love to also see you there to support them.
Tickets are available from the Performing Arts Website or at https://trybooking.com/Booking/BookingEventSummary.aspx?eid=188334

Students performing on the night do not need to purchase a ticket for this event.
This an event open and appropriate for all the family and friends to attend.

The next event will be a performance as part of a Dawn Service on ANZAC day at Boronia RSL. This performance will be by selected students in Concert Band and Jazz Choir and students involved have already been spoken too.
Details in brief are:
25th April 2016,
Leave school: 5:15am, wearing winter school uniform (or parents may drop students at Boronia RSL at 5:30am by prior arrangement with me.
Performance at 6:00am
Returning to school at 8:00am.

WCC Open Day will take place on Tuesday 26th April during school hours. Students will be wearing full school uniform (as per normal school rules) and Secondary Ensembles will be playing from 10am to 11am. Further details of the performance schedule will be posted to the Performing Arts website when they become available. Please remind students to bring their Music and Instruments on this day. All ensembles (including ACT THREE) will be involved in this event as well as selected VCE Soloists.

The Night of Jazz is also fast approaching and will be held on 28th April at 7:30pm at Wantirna College. This night is a joint venture by Waverley Christian College, St Andrews Christian College and Wantirna College and will showcase the performance of the Jazz Bands and Jazz Choirs from these three schools before they all head to Mt Gambier to compete in the ‘Generations in Jazz’ Weekend. Tickets for this night will be available on the Performing Arts Website when all details have been finalised.
Students will be bussed to Wantirna College after school for sound checks but will need to be picked up by parents at the conclusion of this event.
Jazz Band will need to bring their full Performance Blacks (Black dress pants, Plain black dress shirt, Plain Black socks, Polished Black Shoes, and optional black suit jacket)
Jazz Choir will need to bring their Jazz Choir performance outfits.
Dinner will be provided for performers.

The final event I will bring to your attention for now is the ‘Generations in Jazz’ Weekend tour for Jazz Band and Jazz Choir. All students should have received excursion forms, packing details and fundraising chocolates (to help subsidise your cost). If you have not received any of these please contact me and I will get them to you. The full itinerary and booklet will be given to students shortly, as we are just waiting on our final accommodation confirmation from the Generations in Jazz organisers.
Rehearsal for Jazz Band sounded great and I thank you for allowing your children to attend this holiday rehearsal, it was well worth it.

After all this is done we move into production week for ACT THREE – The Lion King to be held May 19th to 21st.
Tickets available via Performing Arts Website soon.

We thank you for your willingness to have your child involved in WCC’s Music Department and hope that we can provide the best opportunities for them to excel in music making both during their school years and onwards.

As always if you have any question, quires or suggestions as to how we can improve your child’s enjoyment and involvement in the Music department at WCC, I am always eager to hear them via email or letter.

Thank you for your support and have a great day

Mr. David George
Secondary Music Coordinator.
